BSGE Undertaking Buscopan® Study
The anti-cholinergic drug, hyoscine-n-butylbromide, commonly known as Buscopan®, is a smooth muscle relaxant which is regularly used in endoscopic procedures to reduce gastrointestinal spasms.
It is believed that the drug facilities ERCP, colonoscopy and increased rates of detection of colorectal adenomas.
The British Society of Gastroenterology have defined strict guidelines around its use which state that a past medical and drug history should be obtained from all patients before commencing any procedure, and that Buscopan® should be used with caution or avoided in patients with a history of angle-closure glaucoma.
The BSGE are about to embark on a study of the use of Buscopan® within endoscopic procedures and are looking for members of the British Society of Gastroenterology to take part in their survey. If you wish to take part then you can do so by clicking here
